Mixing & Mastering
The final stage of production where individual recorded tracks are harmonized into a cohesive musical piece. From tonal balance to loudness optimization, we construct the final sound that reaches the listener.
Book a SessionMixing and mastering represent the "finishing" phase of music production. The process involves strategically placing individual instrument and vocal recordings (multi-tracks) to avoid frequency collisions and bring out the inherent emotion and energy of the composition. At Frottoncoreio, our engineers analyze the raw materials of any genre to pursue a balanced and professional soundstage.
In the mastering stage, we apply final volume adjustments (loudness management) and tonal unification to the mixed stereo file. This ensures that when the track is played on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, or on physical media, it maintains a consistent sonic weight and quality comparable to other professional releases.
Production Process
We review the multi-track files provided by the client to analyze the song structure, tempo, key, and the desired sonic direction. We check the phase and noise levels of each track to determine the baseline for processing.
We adjust the volume balance of each instrument and set the panning (stereo placement). Using EQ to remove unnecessary low-end mud and organize frequencies, we ensure the vocals have a clear space. Compression is applied to control dynamics effectively.
We use reverb and delay to give the track depth and width. By designing the spatial environment to match the mood of the song and adjusting the dry-to-wet ratio, we create a professional three-dimensional feel.
We fine-tune the overall tonal balance of the completed stereo mix and increase the loudness to the target level. After a final quality check, we export the files in the specified formats for delivery.
Who is this service for?
This service is suitable for singer-songwriters and bands who have completed their recordings but feel the sound is disjointed or lacks cohesion. It is also useful for podcast creators who want to increase vocal clarity and optimize the balance between speech and background music. It is an effective solution for those who have recorded materials with home equipment and wish to bring them closer to a commercial sound standard.
Additionally, for those who have already completed their mix but find the final loudness insufficient, or require proper format conversion for distribution platforms, our "Mastering Only" plan is available.
Workflow and Engineering Approach
The engineers at Frottoncoreio focus on the "narrative" of the song rather than simply increasing the volume. By clarifying the contrast between sections that require silence and those where energy should explode, we create a dynamic experience for the listener. Specifically, we aim for a clear and dense sound by removing muddiness in the low-mids and properly placing high-frequency "air."
During the process, we analyze reference tracks provided by the client to understand the required frequency characteristics and dynamics both numerically and intuitively. This minimizes subjective gaps and allows for efficient production.
Client Preparation
To ensure a smooth workflow, please prepare the following materials. First, "multi-track files (stems)" exported individually are required. Please ensure all files start at the exact same point in time. We request WAV format (24-bit/44.1kHz or higher). MP3 format is not suitable for the mixing process due to lossy compression.
Additionally, please provide a song structure map, a set of instructions highlighting specific parts you want emphasized, and URLs or files of reference tracks that closely match your target sound. This reduces the number of revisions and increases the precision of the final result.
Deliverables and Formats
We deliver the following files: a mastered main mix in WAV format (24-bit/48kHz or 44.1kHz) and an MP3 file optimized for distribution. Upon request, we can also provide an "Instrumental Version" (vocals removed) or an "Acapella Version" (vocals only). Delivery is handled via cloud storage. For detailed information on technical specifications, please refer to our File Formats and Delivery guide.
Deadlines and Revisions
The standard turnaround time is approximately 7 to 10 business days from the receipt of materials. However, this may vary based on the number of songs and tracks. Frottoncoreio provides up to 3 rounds of revisions for mixing and mastering services free of charge.
Revision requests should be specific, such as "lower the vocals at 1:20" or "make the bass thicker in the chorus." Major structural changes or replacement of raw materials after the process has started may incur additional fees.
What is NOT included
This service is specialized in "Mixing and Mastering." Therefore, the following tasks are not included: re-recording of existing takes, songwriting, arranging, or adding new instrumental performances. Precise editing tasks such as extreme pitch correction (heavy auto-tune) or timing correction (quantization) are not part of the standard package. If these services are required, please consult us about additional options.
We also do not handle copyright management or distribution agency services. Rights management remains the responsibility of the client.
Pricing and VAT
Pricing is based on a fixed unit rate per track or song. All displayed prices include the Japanese consumption tax (10%). For B2B transactions, invoice payment is available with a payment term of 14 days from the date of issuance.
For detailed terms of use, please review our Terms of Service.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you improve the quality of home-recorded materials?
Yes, it is possible. However, if the recordings have excessive clipping (distortion) or severe environmental noise, there are limits to what can be fixed. We recommend providing the cleanest possible recordings.
What exactly constitutes one of the "3 revisions"?
One "round" is counted as a single consolidated list of revision requests. For example, requesting "vocal volume change, reverb adjustment, and low-end cut" all at once counts as one revision.
What files should I send for "Mastering Only"?
Please provide a completed stereo WAV file (24-bit or higher). To allow for "headroom" during mastering, please ensure the peak level is kept between -3dB and -6dB during export.
