Instrument & Band Recording

Capture the genuine dynamics of your ensemble in the heart of Nagoya. With an 85m² studio space and experienced engineers, we translate your musical vision into a professional sonic reality.

A small musical band recording instruments in a professional live room

The Instrument & Band Recording service at Frottoncoreio focuses on the organic interaction between musicians. We prioritize the natural breath of the performance and the acoustic characteristics of the space. Our studio layout, featuring three distinct rooms, allows for a balance between necessary instrument isolation and the cohesive energy of a full band playing together. The facility can accommodate up to 6 people simultaneously, making it suitable for rock bands, jazz combos, and acoustic ensembles.

Our technical setup includes large-diaphragm condenser microphones and precise nearfield monitors to capture everything from tight low-end frequencies to delicate high-end harmonics. Led by Chief Engineer Takeshi Yamada, our staff assists with microphone placement and level optimization, ensuring that the raw materials are of high quality for the subsequent mixing stage.

The Recording Process

01

Pre-Session Planning

Before the recording, we discuss the song structure, instrumentation, and desired tonal character. Sharing reference tracks helps the engineer prepare the most effective microphone setup.

02

Setup & Soundcheck

Upon arrival, we position the instruments and set up the microphones. A brief rehearsal is used to adjust volume balances and spatial positioning to ensure readiness.

03

Tracking

Under the guidance of the engineer, we record multiple takes to capture the desired performance. Punch-ins for specific sections or overdubbing for added depth are available.

04

Data Verification & Backup

After the session, we verify waveforms and levels, then securely save the session data. Final requirements for the mixing stage are confirmed at this point.

Who This Service Is For

Frottoncoreio's band recording is designed for artists with specific technical needs. Primarily, it serves those seeking an ensemble recording that preserves a live feel. By utilizing our live room where up to 6 members can perform together, we record the natural groove that emerges from shared physical space.

It is also suitable for producers who want to combine full-band takes with precise individual instrument overdubs, and independent artists who need master-quality source materials for digital distribution. Due to our location in Naka-ku, Nagoya, we frequently work with local small-scale productions and music university students on their portfolio projects.

Studio Workflow

On the day of the session, the engineer selects microphones based on the specific characteristics of each instrument. For example, drum kits are captured with ambient microphones to incorporate the room's acoustics, while bass and guitars may use a combination of Direct Boxes (DI) and amplifier microphones for core definition. Investing time in this "tone shaping" phase reduces correction time during mixing and allows musicians to focus on expression.

During recording, the engineer monitors levels from the control room to prevent clipping and ensure an optimal dynamic range. Performers receive accurate monitoring through headphones, allowing them to hear their own performance and the guide tracks with clarity.

Client Preparation

To ensure an efficient session, we ask clients to prepare the following: a written outline of the song structure (chord progressions or arrangement maps) and a confirmed BPM if a click track is to be used. This prevents unnecessary downtime during the session.

Clients are expected to bring their own instruments; however, basic cables and stands are provided by the studio. If you have specific shields, effects pedals, or personal microphones you prefer to use, please notify us in advance so we can integrate them into the setup. We strongly recommend that the band completes sufficient rehearsals before arriving at the studio.

Deliverables and Output

Following the session, data is provided in industry-standard formats. We primarily deliver "multi-track (stem) files," where each instrument is isolated. This allows for flexible volume adjustments or the ability to hire a different engineer for the final mix later.

Files are provided in WAV format (44.1kHz/24bit or 48kHz/24bit). Additionally, we provide a "rough mix" in MP3 format, which is a basic balance adjustment used for verifying the recording content. Delivery is handled via digital transfer or physical media upon request.

Timelines and Scheduling

Initial delivery of recording data typically occurs within 3 business days after the session. While data organization and backup may take time, we strive for prompt delivery. If you commission mixing and mastering from our studio, the project proceeds according to a separate agreed schedule, including up to 3 rounds of revisions.

Regarding bookings, changes made up to 3 days before the session are free of charge. Changes made after this window are subject to the cancellation policy outlined in our terms of service.

What Is Not Included

This service is strictly for "tracking" (recording). The following are not included in the base price: songwriting, composition, or arrangement suggestions. Detailed mixing (tonal balancing and spatial processing) and mastering are separate services.

We do not provide off-site recording services or casting for external session musicians. Furthermore, the studio is not responsible for the repair or replacement of instruments damaged during the session; clients are responsible for their own equipment maintenance. Additional services can be quoted upon request.

Pricing and Tax Calculation

Fees are calculated based on the hourly rates defined in our price list. For the "Full Setup" plan, the total is the hourly rate multiplied by the duration of use. All displayed prices include the Japanese consumption tax (10%). For B2B transactions, invoices are issued with the tax-exclusive price, with a payment term of 14 days.

A deposit of 30% of the total estimated cost is required to confirm the booking. The remaining balance is due upon completion of the session or by the specified payment date. For long-term projects, the "Day Plan (8h)" offers a reduced hourly rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many people can record simultaneously?

The studio can accommodate up to 6 people at once. This is sufficient for a standard band setup including drums, bass, two guitars, vocals, and keyboards.

How long is the recording data stored?

Frottoncoreio maintains an archive of session data for 12 months after the session ends. While we can assist with data recovery within this period, we strongly recommend that clients maintain their own backups.

Can minors use the studio?

Individuals aged 16 and over may use the studio. However, those between 16 and 18 require a parental consent form or must be accompanied by a guardian. Please contact us for specific requirements.

Can you also handle the mixing after recording?

Yes, we offer a separate "Mixing & Mastering" service. Discussing the sonic direction with the engineer during the recording phase typically leads to a smoother finishing process. See our Services page for details.
