Recording Preparation Guide
Studio time is a valuable resource. By arriving fully prepared, you allow the engineer to focus on technical precision and yourself to focus entirely on your artistic performance. This guide outlines the specific steps to ensure a seamless session at Frottoncoreio.
The quality of a recording session is often decided before you even step through the studio doors. Especially for vocal recording, your physical condition and your understanding of the song's structure translate directly into the final audio file. Located in the heart of Naka-ku, Nagoya, our studio provides a controlled environment, but the efficiency of the workflow depends on your preparation.
1. Finalizing Song Structure and Exports
Before starting your session, ensure that your backing tracks (instrumentals) are completely finalized. Changing the arrangement, tempo, or structure during the session consumes significant time and can disrupt the creative momentum. Please verify the following and export your files in WAV format:
- The tempo (BPM) is fixed and consistent throughout the track.
- The file includes the correct length, including intro and outro.
- The track is free from unwanted noise or clicks.
Files should be saved on a USB drive or shared via cloud storage in advance. While Frottoncoreio maintains a session archive for 12 months, the integrity of the final result depends on the accuracy of the source material provided.
2. Vocal Health and Condition Management
The state of your voice fluctuates daily. In Nagoya's climate, particularly during winter or in air-conditioned spaces, the air can become very dry, making hydration essential. We recommend the following habits 2-3 days before your session:
- Drink room-temperature water or warm water frequently to keep the throat hydrated.
- Avoid overly spicy foods or excessive caffeine that may irritate the vocal cords.
- Ensure adequate sleep to eliminate physical fatigue.
On the day of the session, arrive a few minutes early to gently warm up your voice. While our vocal booth is acoustically optimized, the equipment can only capture the performance your body is prepared to deliver.
3. Rehearsals and Phrase Finalization
While "experimenting" in the studio is part of the creative process, deciding every single phrase on the spot is often impractical. If your piece contains complex melodies or fast passages, we strongly suggest rehearsing thoroughly at home to lock in the delivery.
We recommend bringing a printed copy of your lyrics rather than relying solely on a digital device. This prevents interruptions caused by screen timeouts or notifications and allows for quicker communication with the engineer. Marking specific areas for emphasis or planned pauses in your notes will significantly increase direction efficiency.
4. Session Day Checklist
To ensure a prompt start, please prepare the following items:
| Item | Purpose | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Backing Tracks (WAV) | Used as the base for recording | Required |
| Lyric Notes (Paper) | Phrase verification and marking edits | Recommended |
| Personal Headphones | If you prefer a specific monitoring environment | Optional |
| Beverages (Room Temp) | Hydration and vocal refresh | Required |
5. Studio Workflow and Time Allocation
Frottoncoreio operates on an hourly basis. For example, if you use the Vocal Recording plan (65 EUR per hour), approximately 10-15 minutes are required for initial setup and sound-checking. This leaves 45-50 minutes of actual recording time, making prioritization critical.
We recommend a workflow where you first record a full "guide" pass of the song, followed by "punch-ins" to fix specific sections. This method preserves the overall energy and flow of the performance while refining the technical details.
6. Post-Recording Process
Once recording is complete, the project moves into editing and mixing. We manage all multitracks and stems, delivering them at your specified sampling rate and bit depth. If you have commissioned mixing, our service includes up to 3 rounds of revisions. To make the most of this, communicate your desired "sonic texture" to the engineer during the recording phase.
